Who we are
Welcome to Springfield Aircraft Charter & Sales (dba Springfield Air), an international air charter operator and aviation services provider conveniently located among the U.S. midwest’s major commercial centers. Springfield Air began operations in 1992 as Springfield Aircraft Charter and Sales, an FAA-approved On-Demand Charter Operator. Originally based at Springfield- Branson National Airport, Springfield Air proudly served regional clients from that location for more than seventeen years with its fleet of piston and turboprop aircraft.
Beginning in 2010, the Company began a major upgrade program to expand its international operations and add jet aircraft to the charter fleet. Therein, Springfield Air executives forged new partnerships with international clients and conducted several infrastructure review missions in the region.
In late 2010, Springfield was acquired by a private equity investor with a demonstrated track record in airline acquisitions and operations. The acquisition provided fresh capital and renewed commercial focus, enabling the Company’s transition to a standalone business entity committed to air charter opportunities. The Company also launched its jet program, sending its first Citation Captains to Flight Safety International training in November, 2010.
The Company transitioned to an all jet fleet in 2011, centered on the Citation X and Gulfstream V fleet types. The Citation X is one of the world’s fastest corporate jets, and the Gulfstream V is one of the premier intercontinental platform with a range exceeding 6,000 nautical miles. Shortly thereafter, Springfield Air relocated its corporate offices to Kansas City’s Wheeler Downtown Airport in accordance with its large jet modernization program.
In the ensuing years, Springfield’s Operations group operated its all jet fleet to destinations on 5 continents, with pilots flying several hundred hours per year in Asia, Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East. The Company is proud of this track record, and of the dedication and professionalism of its flight and engineering crews.
In 2018, the Company expanded its Citation fleet with the addition of a Citation 550. The Citation 550 is currently utilized in FAR 91 Special Missions roles, with plans to integrate the jet into the Company’s charter fleet in the near future. This Special Mission capability has grown into two key partnerships with new production aircraft R&D and flight test with official institutional clients.
